Berkel Slicers - Europe

Berkel Slicer – Model 1

DESCRIZIONE

Born in 1908 and produced until 1915, the Berkel model 1 is characterized by a very large size.

The carriage slides on a large plate and this also acts as a sliding guide mounted on the opposite side on two small columns. On the opposite side there is a smaller plate without rollers. The sliding plate is made of bronze, while the small plate is made of felt.

The feed mechanism has a visible trapezoidal worm screw and a visible carriage feed comb. A lever is mounted on the comb to release the plate for fast return feeds.

The slice adjustment, a true mechanical genius, is made with an adjustment rod resting on a yoke at the side, where 15 adjustments can be selected. A system of connecting rods is fixed to this rod, which adjusts the gear wheel for the screw feed, after a cam system under the carriage has given the correct millimetres of displacement.

The machine is driven by the classic flowered flywheel of the time. The blade, 370 mm in diameter, is mounted on the round closed shoulder to which the metal glove box and the nameplate are attached; the last one can be different according to the countries where it was purchased. In the upper part of the shoulder we find the blade sharpener, composed of visible chromed pieces and without casings.

The technical features of this vintage slicer and its components guarantee precise operation. The Bottega del Restauro also works on perfecting and restoring the aesthetic factors, painting the model in the original colours and re-proposing every hand-decorated part.
